Terms of Service

The terms that apply when you use TextbookOS.

Last updated: 28 July 2026

These Terms are published by the operator of TextbookOS ("we", "us") — an individual-run study app currently in private beta, not yet a registered company (a company will take over as publisher once formed, post-traction). Contact: support@textbookos.com.

Plain-English version: use TextbookOS to build a real, verified study notebook; be honest about your age; if you're a parent managing an account for a child under 13, you're responsible for it; if you ever pay for Pro, that's handled by Razorpay; don't misuse the AI tutor or the service.

1. Accepting these terms

By creating a TextbookOS account, you — or, if you're under 13, your parent/guardian on your behalf — agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

2. Who can use TextbookOS

  • You must meet Google's own minimum age for holding a personal Google Account (13 in many places, sometimes higher depending on local law) to create your own account. We rely on that gate rather than running a separate age-verification system.
  • If you're under 13, a parent or legal guardian must create and manage your account. They become the Account Holder, responsible for the account, its content, and any payments made on it.
  • The Account Holder is responsible for making sure the information given at signup is accurate, including age.

3. Your account

  • Keep your sign-in secure — you're responsible for activity on your account (or, for a minor's account, the Account Holder is).
  • Don't share your account, and don't create an account on someone else's behalf without being their parent/guardian or having their permission.
  • We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these Terms, misuses the AI tutor, or is used for anything illegal.

4. Your content

The notes, PDFs, and conversations you bring into TextbookOS are yours. By using the app, you give us permission to store and process that content only to run the service for you — for example, sending it to an AI provider to answer your questions or extract notes, as described in the Privacy Policy.

You're responsible for what you upload — don't upload content you don't have the right to use, and don't upload anything illegal or harmful.

5. The AI tutor — what it is and isn't

TextbookOS's AI tutor is a study aid, not a substitute for a real teacher or professional. It clearly labels every answer as either grounded in your own verified notes, general AI knowledge, or app help — but even a "grounded" answer can be wrong. Always use your own judgment, especially for anything important.

The tutor never edits your notes without your say-so — it only changes a note when you press Update.

6. Free and paid plans

TextbookOS offers a free plan today. A paid Pro plan is planned, priced to include applicable taxes (GST), billed through our payment processor, Razorpay — we never see or store your full card details. Honesty features (grounded answers, review, verification) are never behind a paywall; paid plans only affect volume, depth, and extra features.

7. Acceptable use

Don't use TextbookOS to:

  • Break the law, or infringe anyone else's rights
  • Try to bypass usage limits, security, or the age/account rules in Section 2
  • Upload harmful, abusive, or illegal content
  • Attempt to disrupt or reverse-engineer the service

8. Disclaimers and liability

TextbookOS is provided as-is, as an evolving private beta, with no warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, and — because it's AI-assisted — generated notes and tutor answers may be wrong, so always verify anything important yourself (see Section 4).

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, TextbookOS and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Because the service is currently provided free of charge, any liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability where the law does not permit it — including, where applicable, rights you have under Indian consumer-protection law.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India.

10. Changes to these terms

We'll post updates here, and let Account Holders know directly about meaningful changes.
